About the Heritage Project
The Grampound with Creed Parish Council initiated the Heritage Project. Its twin objectives were to record the history of the area so that it could be passed on to future generations and to renovate and regenerate the historic Town Hall building by giving it a new purpose as a Heritage Centre. Generous funding was received from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the SITA Cornwall Trust and Restormel Borough Council. The enthusiasm and commitment of a group of local volunteers was harnessed and directed by a professional curator who, in the short period of her engagement, ensured that the project laid strong foundations for its future role.
It was also supported and guided by the staff of the Royal Cornwall Museum, Truro. The project is now managed by The Friends of the Grampound with Creed Heritage Project whose ideas include offering village study sessions to local schools, developing activities for younger children, developing links with other museums and local history groups in Cornwall, producing publications about the history of Grampound and research in conjunction with Victoria County History Society. We will also continue to staff the regular opening of the Heritage Centre and to expand its range of resources.
